Dobrev dated American actor Ian Somerhalder for three years before becoming romantically involved with dancer Derek Hough a few months later. Dobrev revealed in an interview that she is a rebel who enjoys skinny-dipping. She also admits to always carrying a swimsuit with her in case she feels the urge to swim. She speaks English, Bulgarian, and a little French fluently.
