Paresh Rawal Biography: Paresh Rawal is a National Award-winning Indian actor and actor who immortalised characters like Baburao Ganpatrao Apte and Teja in iconic comedies like Andaz Apna Apte (1994) and Hera Pheri (2000). Although he is best known for his comedic roles, it would be inaccurate to refer to Rawal as a comedian. Over the course of a career spanning more than three decades, the veteran actor has played a variety of roles in various film genres and has been comfortable portraying comedic, supporting, and negative characters. Rawal has given some of his most memorable performances in films such as Naam (1986), Woh Chokri (1994), Raja (1995), Tamanna (1997), Hungama (2003), Garam Masala, OMG – Oh My God!, and Table No. 21.
Paresh Rawal, who was born in Mumbai to a Gujarati family, attended Lion’s Juhu High School before graduating from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, where he participated in several intercollegiate drama festivals. After concluding his education, he worked for the Bank of Baroda before eventually entering Bollywood.
Rawal, a gifted actor, debuted in 1985 with the film Arjun and subsequently appeared in over 100 films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In the films Roop ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Kabzaa, King Uncle, Ram Lakhan, Daud, Baazi, and Andaz Apna Apna, he played the main antagonist. As the Marathi proprietor Baburao Ganatrao Apte in the 2000 Bollywood cult classic Hera Pheri, he established himself as a character actor. His performance won him the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian. In the 2002 blockbuster film Aankhen, Rawal portrayed one of three blind bank robbers.
In the 2000s, he appeared primarily as the main protagonist in ensemble comedies. He appeared in the 2010 film Aakrosh, which was based on honour slaying. Rawal starred alongside Akshay Kumar in the 2012 film OMG – Oh My God!, which received rave reviews. He has also had a successful career as an actor in Gujarati dramas, such as Dear Father.
He has produced Hindi operas like Teen Bahuraaniyaan, Main Aisi Kyunn Hoon, and Colours’ Laagi Tujhse Lagan. Rajkumar Hirani’s most recent film is Sanju, starring Ranbir Kapoor. In addition, he will reprise his role in Hera Pheri 3, which is scheduled for release in 2024. In 2020, Rawal was designated director of the National School of Drama.
In 1987, Rawal wed the actress and 1979 Miss India contest winner Swaroop Sampat. Aditya and Aniruddh are Paresh and Swaroop’s two offspring. He is a graduate of Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai’s Vile Parle.
