Ninja Birthday

Richard Tyler Blevins, of Welsh descent, was born in the Detroit area on June 5, 1991, but his family relocated to the Chicago suburbs when he was an infant. He went to Grayslake Central High School and played football. After graduating, he made the decision to play video games professionally by entering tournaments, joining professional organisations, and live-streaming his games.

In 2009, Blevins began playing “Halo 3” professionally. He previously played for Cloud9, Renegades, Team Liquid, and most recently Luminosity Gaming. He won the P.U.B.G. Gamescom Invitational Squads classification in August of 2017. In addition, he began playing H1Z1 before switching to “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.” Blevins began streaming “Fortnite Battle Royale” immediately after the November 2017 P.U.B.G. Gamescom Invitational in Germany. In September 2017, he had 500,000 Twitch followers; by March 2018, he had three million. In March of 2018, Blevins became the first Twitch streamer to reach three million followers. Later that month, while playing Fortnite with Drake, Travis Scott, and JuJu Smith-Schuster, he broke the record for the largest concurrent audience on a non-tournament broadcast with 635,00 viewers. This stream inspired the developers of Fortnite, “Epic Games,” to conduct a charitable pro-am event at “E3 2018” in June of that year. Popular streamers teamed up with celebrities in Fortnite; Blevins teamed up with electronic musician “Marshmello” and won the competition. During his April 2018 event “Ninja Vegas 2018,” he surpassed his previous viewership record by attracting approximately 667,000 live viewers. Blevins partnered with “Red Bull eSports” in June of 2018, and on July 21, 2018, he hosted a special Fortnite event, “Red Bull Rise Till Dawn,” in Chicago where players could compete against him. Blevins’ rise in prominence on Twitch is believed to be a result of the success of “Fortnite: Battle Royale.” In December 2018, Blevins estimated he had earned close to $10 million in 2018, while “Epic Games” reported more than $3 billion in revenue, predominantly from Fortnite. Blevins was the first PC player to reach 5,000 Fortnite victories in the same month.

Blevins departed Twitch on August 1, 2019, to exclusively stream on the Mixer platform from Microsoft. Blevins announced on September 10, 2020, that after his exclusive contract with Mixer expired, he would return to Twitch broadcasting. The following day after signing an exclusive multi-year contract, he began broadcasting on Twitch.
