His astrological sign is Capricorn, and he is of British descent. He has two older siblings and is the son of Eric Atkinson and Ella May (née Bainbridge) Atkinson. Atkinson cooperated with the Experimental Theatre Club and the Oxford University Dramatic Society to compose and perform sketches while attending Oxford University. There, he met Richard Curtis and Howard Goodall, with whom he would continue to collaborate in the future. In 1976, he appeared for the first time at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with The Oxford Revue, and people began to recognise his talents.

The character’s egocentric, infantile nature, mixed with his mannerisms, facial expressions, and non-verbal sounds, contributed to his immense popularity. After a succession of TV sequels to his special, Mr. Bean reached the big screen for the first time with “Bean” (1997). Atkinson also starred in the 1994 romantic comedy “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and the 1994 Disney classic “The Lion King” (1994). He portrayed the titular character in the “Johnny English” film series from 2003 to 2018. Additionally, “Johnny English” was a great success. In “Mr. Bean’s Holiday,” Mr. Bean returned after eleven years (2007).
