He was an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer who was also known as “Ruck.” He participated in the hip-hop duo Heltah Skeltah and was a member of the Boot Camp Clik collective. For twenty years, he embodied the resilient essence of the elite hip-hop in Brooklyn. Price gained notoriety and distinction through the use of witty, barrel-shaped, and incisive lyrics delivered in a sneering, agile voice. In 2015, Price passed away while sleeping.

First appearing as a member of Boot Camp Clik, he appeared on the 1995 album “Dah Shinin” by Smif-N-Wessun. Alongside fellow rapper Rock, he ascended to prominence in 1996 as ‘Ruck,’ a member of Heltah Skeltah. The debut album “Nocturnal” was released on Duck Down Records. They subsequently issued two additional albums, namely “Magnum Force” and “DIRT.”
When he went solo, Price rebranded himself under his given name and released three studio albums: “Mic Tyson,” 2010; “Monkey Barz,” 2005; and “Jesus Price Superstar,” 2007. He rapidly rose to prominence within the underground hip-hop community. He details the life and times of a turbulent rap star on the precipice of obscurity who left no stone unturned in his pursuit of success in his debut album. He received awards for an independent album in 2005 from Source and AllHipHop.com, two highly regarded online platforms. He served as a judge on the television program “Ultimate M.C.” in 2011. He co-founded the band Random Axe with Guilty Simpson and producer Black Milk in the same year.
Unfortunately, Price passed away in his sleep on August 8, 2015. At the age of 43, he passed away leaving behind his spouse and three children. A month later, his posthumous mixtape “Songs in the Key of Price” ascended the Billboard listings. His number ‘Imperius Rex’ was released two years after his passing, featuring guest appearances by DOOM, Prodigy, and others.
