Sharon, the mother of Mark Twain, remarried a man named Jerry Twain, who adopted Sharon’s three daughters. The family of Mark Twain often struggled financially. At times, the situation was so dire that they scarcely had enough food to survive. Understandably, the situation took a toll on Twain’s adoptive father, who vented his ire at his wife by ranting and displaying general irritation.
