Sharman Joshi Biography: Sharman Joshi (born April 28, 1979) is an Indian actor and television presenter best known for his roles in the Hindi films Rang De Basanti (2006), Golmaal (2006), Dhol (2007), and 3 Idiots (2009).

Early years

Joshi is a member of a family of Gujarati Brahmin actors and performers. His aunt Sarita Joshi (Bhosle) and cousins performed in Marathi and Gujarati theatre. His sister, Manasi Joshi Roy, is an actress, and his brother-in-law, Rohit Roy, is an actor.

Career

Joshi has acted in, produced, and directed plays in the languages of English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati. He directed and performed in numerous theatrical productions. He played a deaf character in the Gujarati adaptation of the popular drama All the Best, which ran for over 550 performances over three years. In “Ame Layi Gaya, Tami Rahi Gaya,” another of his popular comedies, he played four distinct roles. He made his directorial debut in 2016 with the Hindi romantic comedy Main Aur Tum. It stars him and Tejashree Pradhan in the leading role.

He made his film début in 1999’s Godmother, an art film. The subsequent film, Style (2001), was produced by N Chandra. The style was succeeded by Xcuse Me (2003) and other comedies including Shaadi No. 1 (2005). He starred in the 2006 film Rang De Basanti. Joshi starred in the comedy film Golmaal later that year. He appeared in the 2007 film Life in a… Metro, Dhol, and Raqeeb. The following year, he portrayed Shyam in Hello, the film adaptation of One Night @ the Call Centre by Chetan Bhagat.

Joshi portrayed the male protagonist in 2008’s Sorry Bhai! and one of the three characters (Raju Rastogi) in Chetan Bhagat’s novel Three Idiots, which was released in 2009. He also starred in the 2012 family drama Ferrari ki Sawaari. He portrayed a police officer in the erotic thriller Wajah Tum Ho. In the Bollywood films Kaashi in Search of Ganga (2018) and 3 Storeys, he has played the main role. He is best recognised for his performance as Raju Rastogi in the film 3 Idiots. He made his digital debut in 2019 as the male protagonist opposite Asha Negi in the Balaji Telefilms production Baarish.

Personal Life

21-year-old Joshi wed Prerana Chopra, daughter of actor Prem Chopra, on 15 June 2000. The couple has three children: Khyana Joshi, identical twins Vaaryan and Vihaan Joshi, and twins Vaaryan and Vihaan Joshi.
