Early Years

Sunil Chhetri was born in Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana), India, on August 3, 1984. His Nepalese parents, K.B. Chhetri and Sushila Chhetri, both served in the Indian Army. Due to his father’s employment, Chhetri spent the majority of his boyhood moving from city to city within India.

Chhetri’s passion for football began at a tender age, and he began playing the sport competitively during his school years. He attended Bahai School in Gangtok, Sikkim, and played for the school team, where scouts from various football organisations discovered him.
