Evelyn and Michael Braxton are her parents, and she is the youngest of six children. Braxton began singing as an infant, and along with her siblings, she joined the church choir at a young age.
Braxton and her sisters signed their first record contract in 1989, and their debut single, “Good Life,” was released in 1990. The same year, they founded The Braxtons, an R&B band. Toni, the eldest of the sisters, departed the group after signing with a record label as a solo artist. The remainder of the ensemble provided backup vocals for her tours and appeared in some of her music videos. 1996 saw the publication of “So Many Ways” by Braxton and her remaining sisters, who were still in the group. In 2000, she released her debut solo album, “Tamar,” along with the single “If You Don’t Want to Love Me.” The album and the single were unsuccessful, and DreamWorks dismissed Braxton. The film “Kingdom Come” featured her unreleased composition “Try Me” as part of its soundtrack. (2001). Braxton began collaborating with her older sister on tunes and appeared in the music videos of the latter. She contracted with Universal Records in 2010 and released “The Heart in Me” that same year. Later, Braxton, her mother, and her sisters were signed to We TV’s “Braxton Family Values” reality program. (2011 to 2020).
She also starred in the spin-off series “Tamar & Vince” alongside her spouse, Vincent Herbert, from 2012 to 2017. The spin-off told the story of Braxton’s solo career and their marriage. She later co-hosted the late-night program “Tiny Tonight” and “The Culturelist.” Braxton inked a contract with Epic Records in March 2013 and released her second studio album, “Love and War.” (2013). The previous year’s publication of the title track was a commercial success. In 2013, the singer released the album’s second single, “The One,” which also became a success. Braxton’s second album was nominated for three Grammys. In the same year, she hosted the daytime talk program “The Real” and released her third studio album, “Winter Loversland.” From 2014 to late 2015, she released several singles, including ‘Let Me Know’ and ‘If I Don’t Have You.’ In 2015, Braxton released her fourth studio album, “Calling All Lovers,” and also competed on “Dancing With The Stars.” In the same year, she and her sisters released a Christmas album titled “Braxton Family Christmas.” The singer’s fifth studio album, “Bluebirds of Happiness,” will be released shortly.
