He was a writer, attorney, philosopher, inventor, architect, diplomat, archaeologist, and state official. He made history by participating in the United States’ declaration of independence. Before serving as president from 1801 to 1809, he held numerous positions as legislator and governor of the state of Virginia, member of Congress, minister of France, secretary of state, and vice presidential candidate.
Thomas Jefferson Birthday
Thomas Jefferson was born in Shadwell, Virginia, on April 13, 1743. He was the third of ten children born to Petter Jefferson and Jane Randolph, both of whom owned the Shadwell plantation. Aries was his zodiac sign, and he proclaimed deism. At the age of nine, he decided to study Latin, Greek, and French in addition to his regular schoolwork. Jefferson was a highly educated individual; he studied subjects such as history, science, and mathematics for approximately 15 hours per day. His commitment to his studies enabled him to become one of the university’s top students and graduate with honours. In 1767, after concluding his university education, he passed an exam that allowed him to be admitted as a lawyer in Virginia.
His career as a lawyer was extraordinary; he managed to amass a hundred clients, and the tremendous growth of his work led to his election as Virginia’s delegate to the Second Continental Congress in 1755. There, he was assigned, along with Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert R Livingston, and Roger Sherman, to revise the Declaration of Independence, which Richard Henry Lee presented on July 2, 1776, and which was ratified on July 4. After this, Jefferson’s political career flourished, and he eventually became President of the United States from 1801 to 1809.
After completing his presidential term, he served as the founding father of the University of Virginia, which he established in 1819. The university had an impact because it was one of the first institutions of higher education not influenced by the church, as evidenced by the design of the campus, which features a library rather than a church. However, devoting his life to the political and social realm did not prevent him from leading a rich and fulfilling personal life. Jefferson married Martha Wayles in 1772, and they had six children together. But despite having a beautiful love tale, it was cut short in 1782 when Martha passed away after giving birth to her last child. After this, Thomas decided to live as a widower, and he never remarried. He passed away on July 4, 1826.
