Michael Lamar White IV, also known as Trippie Redd, was born in severe conditions in Canton, Ohio. Tonya White was left to raise him by herself after his father was sent to prison prior to his birth. Tonya struggled to make ends meet, but this was insufficient to prevent White from living on the streets. From a tender age, he was involved in minor crimes. His mother was an avid music listener who enjoyed Beyonce and Tupac. This sparked White’s interest in music creation.
White’s older sibling was interested in pursuing a career in music. However, his untimely death in a car accident compelled White to pursue his musical passions earnestly. He uploaded his first two tracks, ‘New Ferrari’ and ‘Sub-Zero’, online when he was 15 years old. The compositions were popular, but White was unhappy with them, so he removed them. After graduating from high school, White relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he met Lil Wop and experienced his first breakthrough.
White was introduced to the realm of rap and music production by Lil Wop. White contributed to three initiatives entitled “Awakening my Inner Beast,” “Beast Mode,” and “Rock the World Trippie.” The success of these endeavours enabled White to relocate to Los Angeles. Formerly known as Strainge Entertainment, he signed a contract with Elliot Grainge Entertainment. In 2017, he released his first mixtape titled “A Love Letter To You.” The mixtape entered the “Billboard” 200 listings at position 64. The mixtape’s single ‘Love Scars’ became a popular success, garnering more than eight million YouTube views.
