William Fichtner Biography: William Fichtner, born November 27, 1956, is a well-known American actor best recognized for his performances on television, including Alexander Mahone on “Prison Break,” Sheriff Tom Underlay on “Invasion,” Adam Janikowski on “Mom,” and Carl Hickman on “Crossing Lines.” He has appeared in a number of films and video games. Fichtner was born in Cheektowaga, New York, and raised on Long Island. He graduated from Maryvale High School in 1974 and subsequently attended Farmingdale State College, where he earned an associate degree in criminal justice in 1976. In 1978, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brockport State University of New York College. Fichtner then attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

Although many people recognize William Edward Fichtner as government agent Alexander Mahone on the television series “Prison Break,” he began his acting career in the late 1980s. In 1987, he played Josh Snyder in the soap opera “As the World Turns.” He went on to appear in a number of films, including “Armageddon,” “Crash,” “Go,” “Equilibrium,” “Contact,” “Drive Angry,” and “The Dark Knight.” His performance in “Crash” earned him a Broadcast Film Critics Choice Award for Best Acting Ensemble and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. From 2013 until 2021, he was a regular in the CBS comedy “Mom.”

Fichtner has also voiced Ken Rosenberg in the video games “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City,” “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas,” and Master Sergeant Sandman in the 2011 video game “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.” Fichtner also appeared in the science fiction television series “Invasion” between 2005 and 2006. Following the discontinuation of this series, he starred in three seasons of “Prison Break” from 2006 to 2009. Later, in 2014, he portrayed Eric Sacks in the American superhero picture “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

Fichtner has garnered numerous awards over his career. In 2007, he was one of 115 people invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. On May 18, 2008, he received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Farmingdale State College, thanking Don Harvey, the Farmingdale Admissions Counselor, for inspiring him to pursue a career in acting. Fichtner also co-presented the Vezina Trophy at the 2009 NHL awards ceremony.
