He briefly attended Five Towns College in Dix Hill before withdrawing to pursue a career in music.

On August 20, 2010, he declared his candidature for the Haitian presidency, but the Haitian Provisional Electoral Council rejected it because he did not satisfy key residency requirements.

He married Marie Claudinette in 1994, and the couple adopted Angelina Claudette Jean in March 2005. They renewed their vows in 2009 and currently reside in New York City.
