He was born in Wilkesboro, North Carolina on 1 October 1969. His mother was the proprietor of a community arts center, while his father sold heating oil. Galifianakis is descended from Scotch-Irish, English, and Greek ancestors. He attended Wilkes Central High School, specializing in communications at North Carolina State University.
Galifianakis debuted on television in 1996 with “Boston Common.” He portrayed Bobby in five episodes of this series until 1997. In the same year, he appeared in five episodes of “Apt. 2F” as Zach. The actor was cast in supporting roles in “Heartbreakers” (2001). Before co-starring in “Out Cold” (2001), he appeared in “Bubble Boy” (2001), “Corky Romano” (2001), and other films. In 2002, Zach Galifianakis hosted his VH1 talk program titled “Late World with Zach.” From 2003 to 2005, he appeared in 27 episodes as Davis on “Tru Calling.” Before starring in “Visioneers” (2008), Galifianakis appeared in a number of additional film and television productions.
The subsequent year, he appeared in “The Hangover” (2009). Galifianakis created the web series “Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis,” which was posted on the website Funny or Die. In this series, seated between two potted ferns, he conducted rigged interviews featuring bizarre nonsequiturs and inappropriate queries with numerous celebrities. As the show’s producer, Galifianakis won the Outstanding Short-Format-Live-Action Entertainment Program award at the 66th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
Galifianakis has appeared in numerous film and television productions. These include “American Dad,” “The Muppets,” “The Simpsons,” “Big Mouth,” and “Bob’s Burgers,” among others. In 2013, he reprised the role of Alan in “The Hangover: Part III.” His most recent prominent role was as Ron in “Ron’s Gone Wrong” (2021). As an accomplished actor, writer, comedian, and musician, Galifianakis keeps his personal life private. However, in 2012 he wed Quinn Lundberg, and they have two children together.
