Here is everything you need to know about the launch of the INS Vindhyagiri.
- According to President Murmu, the Vindhya ranges, which have long been a representation of tenacity, are a suitable naming choice for the ship. When this vessel is put into service, she is convinced that it will represent the Vindhyas’ tenacity.
- With the completion of this ship, the Navy has now completed six of the seven ships that were built as part of “Project 17 Alpha.” Between 2019 and 2022, the first five ships in this effort were launched.
- Importantly, this is the third and last stealth frigate that the Kolkata-based shipyard will build for the Navy as part of the same project.
- According to an official, an amazing 75% of the equipment and systems orders for the P17A ships have come from domestic suppliers, including MSMEs (micro, small, and medium-sized companies).
- The cutting-edge ship will undergo rigorous testing before joining the Indian Navy’s operational fleet, INS Vindhyagiri, where it will be outfitted with cutting-edge technology.
- The P17A ships are fearsome guided missile frigates with a top speed of 28 knots, measuring an impressive 149 metres in length and displacing roughly 6,670 tonnes. An official from the GRSE emphasised their ability to neutralise dangers in the air, on the surface, and below the surface.
- Since being elected president last year, Murmu has made two trips to West Bengal. In March, she went there. According to her, “The vibrant city of Kolkata, with its rich history and culture, holds a special place in the heart of our nation.” She continued, “Kolkata’s strategic location makes it essential for our naval readiness, protecting our maritime interests, and preserving regional stability.
Additionally present were West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor CV Ananda Bose.
