August 23 to be celebrated as India’s National Space Day: PM Modi

PM Modi stated that the extent of space science extended beyond space exploration and satellite launch.

India’s National Space Day: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that August 23, the date on which Chanrayaan-3 landed on the Moon, will be National Space Day.

He said this while addressing the ISRO crew at the Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Centre (ISTRAC) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru early on Saturday morning.

ISRO scientists and officials responded enthusiastically to the announcement with thunderous ovation and broad smiles.

Modi travelled from Athens to Bengaluru to meet the ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 crew in person, as he had communicated with them online from Johannesburg, where he was attending the BRICS summit on August 23, when the mooncraft landed.

Modi, addressing the gathering, stated that the commemoration of the National Space will instill a spirit of scientific inquiry and creativity in the minds of the youth.

The spot where the Vikram Lander touched down on the Moon will be known as the Shiv-Shakti point, as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement. Shiv-Skati is based on the idea that the cosmos was created by combining feminine and masculine energies.

He also stated that the location where Chandrayaan-3 impacted down on the lunar surface will be known as Tiranga spot.

He informed the scientists that he wished the world to know about “your hard work.”

He acknowledged that “the journey from South India to the South Pole was not an easy one; you even created an artificial moon to ensure mission success.”

PM Modi stated that the extent of space science extended beyond space exploration and satellite launch.

He stated that its greatest utility was in promoting governance transparency.

Modi stated that shortly after assuming the office of prime minister, he organised a symposium for deputy secretary-level officers and ISRO scientists to make them aware of the potential applications of space science in enhancing governance.
