2023–2024 School Year Calendar Overview: This is the calendar for the 2023–2024 school year for all 3K–12 NYCDOE public institutions. If your child attends a private, parochial, charter, NYC Early Education Centre (NYCEEC), or Family Childcare Programme, please contact his or her school for calendar information.
Please be aware of the following:
All students and families should plan on participating in remote learning on days when school buildings are closed due to inclement weather or other emergencies.
Parent-Teacher Conference dates for individual institutions may vary from those listed below. Your child’s teacher will coordinate the scheduling of your conference with you.
On this schedule, elementary schools are programmes that serve kindergarten (K) through eighth grade, including schools with 3-K and Pre-K programmes, as well as those that terminate in grade 5. Middle schools are defined as programmes serving grades 6 through 8, while high schools are defined as programmes serving grades 9 through 12.
Public holidays (also known as legal or federal holidays) that fall on a Saturday are not observed on a weekday, but if they occur on a Sunday, they are observed the following Monday. When non-public holidays occur on a weekend, New York City Public Schools remain open on the weekdays immediately preceding or following the holiday.
Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Election Day, Diwali, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Lunar New Year, Good Friday, Eid al-Fitr, Passover (first two days), and Eid al-Adha are non-public holidays observed by New York City Public Schools.
As these holidays occur on weekends during the 2023-24 school year, schools will be open this year in accordance with a longstanding policy.
Rosh Hashanah will occur on September 16–17, 2023.
Saturday, November 11, 2023 is Veteran’s Day.
Sunday, November 12, 2023 is Diwali.
New Year’s Day (Saturday, February 10, 2024) is the Lunar New Year.
