Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is very proud that 26 of its researchers made Stanford University’s prestigious list of the top 2% of scientists around the world. This prestigious list was put together by a group of experts led by Professor John Ioannidis of Stanford University and published by Elsevier BV. It shows how much JMI scholars have contributed to research around the world.

Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of JMI, said, “This award shows that JMI has very high standards for its research. It puts our university on the map of excellence around the world and makes us feel very proud.”

This award is based on a database of over 96,17,763 top scientists that is available to the public. This database has standard information on citations, h-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator.

Scientists are put into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields by the standard Science-Metrix classification. There are also percentiles for each field and subfield for all scientists with at least five papers. Data about a whole career are up-to-date until the end of 2022, and data about a single recent year are for citations received in 2022. The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or higher in the subfield.

The c-score looks at impact (citations) rather than productivity (number of publications), and it also takes into account co-authorship and author positions (single, first, last author).

Jamia Millia Islamia continues to strive for excellence in research and education. The fact that some of its researchers are on a prestigious list from Stanford University shows how dedicated it is to promoting scholarly achievements around the world.
