69th National Wildlife Week with a Green Initiative

Prof. Afifullah Khan, chairman of the department of wildlife, stated that this eco-friendly project not only represents the AMU community's dedication to wildlife conservation but also serves as an excellent approach to launch National Wildlife Week.

69th National Wildlife Week: The 69th National Wildlife Week was launched by Aligarh Muslim University’s Department of Wildlife Sciences with a motivational green campaign. The agency decided to honour the event by planting tree saplings on its property in keeping with the celebration’s subject of “Partnership for Wildlife Conservation,” which is this year’s focus.

Professor Wazahat Hussain, a renowned plant systematics expert who has won numerous honours, including the prestigious “Sheikh Zayed International Award” from the government of the United Arab Emirates and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of AYUSH, attended the event. Professor Hussain emphasised in his lecture the amazing collection of over 600 native and non-native plant species that can be found on the campus, which has a great diversity of plants. He also took part in a tree-planting ceremony, planting a Red Sandal tree (Pterocarpus santalinus) sapling as a memento of the event. By planting different other tree species, students, researchers, and faculty members also helped to increase the plant diversity on the AMU campus.

Prof. Afifullah Khan, chairman of the department of wildlife, stated that this eco-friendly project not only represents the AMU community’s dedication to wildlife conservation but also serves as an excellent approach to launch National Wildlife Week with a message of sustainability and collaboration. These seedlings’ planting signifies a significant step in safeguarding future generations’ access to our natural heritage.
