The CEO of Navneet Education Ltd, Devish Gala, emphasises that all prefixes owe their existence to teachers, yet teachers are frequently undervalued for the vital work they perform. Utilising the ‘Tr’ prefix on visiting cards and personalised stationery kits for government school instructors, his company demonstrates initiative.
Gala has contacted state administrations and the White House to advocate for the use of ‘Tr’ in certificates presented to exceptional teachers during the September 5 Teachers’ Day festivities. Even institutions in the United Arab Emirates and Israel have expressed interest in the concept. The objective is straightforward: to garner more respect for instructors.
An author and linguist, Peggy Mohan, concurs that teachers have been underappreciated for a long time and that this small action can help rectify the situation. She explains how she was treated with more respect when she was misunderstood as a doctor, despite the fact that instructors have historically been viewed as powerless.
This sentiment is shared by a large number of teachers, who point out that university instructors frequently receive more recognition than schoolteachers due to their titles. Adding the prefix ‘Tr’ is viewed as a significant step forward, providing not only societal recognition but also a significant morale lift for educators. The director-principal of R N Podar School, Avnita Bir, notes that teachers now collaborate and are focused on interdisciplinary education, making this title a source of unity and community among them.
