AMU Court draws a panel: During a special meeting today, the highest governing body of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Court recommended a group of three names to the President of India, who is visiting the university, for the position of Vice-Chancellor.
The names of Professors Muzaffar Uruj Rabbani, the former dean of AMU’s faculty of medicine, Faizan Mustafa, the vice chancellor of Chanakya National Law University in Patna and a professor in the law department, and Naima Khatoon, the principal of AMU’s women’s college and a professor of psychology, were recommended by the University Court for the position of new vice chancellor.
Prof. Muhammad Gulrez, the acting vice chancellor, chaired the gathering of 84 participants. The chief election officer, Mr. Naseem Ahmad, a former vice chancellor of AMU, oversaw the poll.

Professors Furqan Qamar and Qayyum Husain received 45 and 43 votes, respectively, while Professors Rabbani, Mustafa, and Khatoon received 51, 53, and 50 votes each. In its meeting on October 30, the University’s Executive Council selected five names, among them Professors Qamar and Husain.
Mr. Mohammad Imran (IPS), the registrar of AMU, led the proceedings and then gave a vote of gratitude.
