Prof Shamim Ahmad (84), former Aligarh Muslim University Pro Vice Chancellor and retired faculty member of the Department of Civil Engineering passed away after a prolonged illness.
He was laid to rest at the University Graveyard today.
“In everything Prof Shamim did, he brought equal measures of empathy and rigor, holding himself and others to high standards with kindness and compassion. He was loved by his students and respected as a generous and caring colleague”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.
Prof Mohammad Altamush Siddiqui (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology) pointed out: “Prof Shamim was a learned teacher who set the standard for the rest of us. He had the ability to stand in the shoes of students as he crafted lesson plans to make complex topics both interesting and understandable. His demise leaves the Faculty of Engineering and Technology with a deep void”.

In the arch of his academic career at AMU, Prof Shamim also served as the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering and President, AMU Teachers Association.
He was married to late Prof Hamida Ahmad (Department of Psychology) and is survived by two daughters and a son.
