Justice AM Ahmadi (Aziz Mushabbar Ahmadi), 91, former Chief Justice of India and former Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, passed away Thursday morning.
Prof. Tariq Mansoor, vice chancellor of AMU, expressed profound sorrow and grief upon Justice Ahmadi’s passing, noting that the university enjoyed a close and long-lasting relationship with him during his two terms as Chancellor.
“His death is a personal loss for the AMU fraternity members. I expressed my deepest condolences to his family and friends and prayed for him to be elevated in Jannah,” he added.

In 1954, Ahmadi began his legal career. He was appointed to the Ahmedabad City Civil and Sessions Court before being elevated to the Gujarat High Court.

Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court of India in December 1988, he served on the Ravi and Beas Waters Disputes Tribunal as part of the Rajiv-Longowal Settlement.
