AMU staff and students take part in Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan with great zeal

Under the direction of their respective principals and provosts, a massive cleaning effort was carried out at the university schools.

Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan: Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, asked the populace today to participate in the nationwide initiative “Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi Seva 2023” and do their lot to make the nation one of the cleanest in the world. He claimed that by doing this, India will become the true embodiment of Mahatma Gandhi’s objectives to become a clean, green nation in line with the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.

Along with the Registrar, Mr. Mohmmad Imran (IPS), Dr. Ali Jafar Abedi, the Nodal Officer, and other university officials, Prof. Gulrez enthusiastically participated in cleaning activities and observed the exercise at various locations on and around the university campus. Prof. Gulrez referred to the cleaning services as one of the true services to the nation that also support the national initiative “Swachhata Hi Seva.”

He emphasised that each of us has a duty to preserve the environment and mother earth so that we can, as much as possible, pass this valuable resource on to the next generation in a healthy and natural state.

Teachers, students, and staff at the university demonstrated remarkable fervour for the national campaign and participated fervently in the extensive cleanup effort staged in numerous locations on the university campus to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs designated specific locations for the cleanliness drive to take place, including the Slum area near Indira Gandhi Hall, the Controller Office in the New Block at Tibbiya College, Cycle Stand S.T.S. School, the Hostel at Ahmadi School for the Visually Impaired, Medical Road, Mirzapur Village adopted by the Department of Social Work, and the area from Aligarh Public School to CDO.

Along with other instructors, students, and staff, Mr. Mohammad Imran and Prof. Mohammad Gulrez toured the various locations, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College’s Trauma Centre area, and took part in the cleanup initiatives.

The Swachhta programme coordinators Dr Abdul Waris, senior DMS, Dr Shah Mohammad Abbas Waseem, and Dr Mohammad Kamran Khan, who facilitated the cleanliness drive activities under the supervision of Prof Shagufta Moin, the nodal officer for this purpose, participated in the cleaning activities. They were joined by Prof Veena Meheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Prof Haris Manzoor Khan, Principal, JNMC, and Prof R.

In collaboration with the Aligarh Nagar Swasthya Adhikari, the University Health Officer, Director, Centre for Continuing Adult Education and Extension (CCAEE), Chairman, Department of Social Work, Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, S.T.S School, Principal, Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged, and Coordinator, NSS, moved, managed, and facilitated cleaning activities at the aforementioned locations.

Under the direction of their respective principals and provosts, a massive cleaning effort was carried out at the university schools, including the ABK High School (Boys and Girls), AMU Girls’ School, STS School, RMPS AMU City School, AMU City Girls’ High School, Saiyid Hamid Senior Secondary School, Senior Secondary School (Girls), Abdullah School, Ahmadi School, and at the residence halls.

With the assistance of faculty, students, and staff at the aforementioned locations, sweeping of open spaces alongside the roads, clearing of shrubs, picking of undesired paper and plastic rags, cleaning of open drains, classrooms, hallways, stair rails, bathrooms, etc., were carried out during the exercise.
