AMU Vice Chancellor inaugurates Centre for Food Science and Technology

The Centre for Food Science and Technology was inaugurated on Thursday (March 31) by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor in a special ceremony at the first floor of the Department of Civil Engineering.

Students interested in the study of the make-up of food in biological, chemical and physical sense can now begin their academic journey in a dedicated Centre for Food Science and Technology at the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

The Centre for Food Science and Technology was inaugurated on Thursday (March 31) by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor in a special ceremony at the first floor of the Department of Civil Engineering.

In the launching ceremony, the Vice Chancellor remarked: “Students of this Centre under the supervision of faculty members will go a long way in making contributions to the food science and technology field. They will be trained as experts for providing a range of products, allowing consumers to choose those that best suit their preferences, lifestyle and nutrition-related goals”.

“At a time, when there is a growing consciousness on improving the quality of what we eat, and by extension, our health, and wellbeing; it was imperative to have a dedicated Centre for Food and Science Technology for fresh perspectives in food handling and processing, innovative and emerging technologies and trends and future research in food products and food industry byproducts”, said Prof Pervez Mustajab (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology).

“We already have a B. Tech course in Food Science and Technology running since 2020 and students who are pursuing this course will now attend their tutorials and practicals in the newly inaugurated Centre”, said Prof Syed Akhlaq Ahmad (Coordinator, Centre for Food and Science Technology).

Prof M M Sufiyan Beg (Principal,ZHCET), Prof Abdul Baqi (Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering), Prof Arshad Umar (Principal, University Polytechnic) and Rajeev Sharma (University Engineer) attended the inaugural function.
