Banaras Hindu University Expands Scholarship Opportunities: Banaras Hindu University, the most prestigious university in India, has added twelve new scholarships for students. Kishori Jhunjhunwala, the wife of industrialist Dhinanath Jhunjhunwala, has donated 50 lakh rupees to the university, prompting the decision. In accordance with the Pratidana Initiative of BHU, the families of alumni contributed funds to increase the number of student scholarships.

Saturday, Kishori Jhunjhunwala paid a visit to the university and presented Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain with a Rs 50 lakh honorarium. Kishori Jhunjhunwala has donated a total of 50 lakh rupees for the establishment of ten scholarships of 25,000 rupees each. Eight of these scholarships will be awarded to deserving Mahila Mahavidyalaya students based on their academic achievement and financial need. Students of Acharya’s Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vijnana Sankaya (Faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan) will receive two scholarships.
Sh. Dhinanath Jhunjhunwala, the proprietor of Jhunjhunwala Oil Mills Ltd., earned a degree in industrial engineering from the university in 1954. He is married to Mrs. Jhunjhunwala. Jagdish Jhunjhunwala, managing director of JJ Plastalloy Pvt. Ltd. and alumnus of the university, has donated Rs 10 lakh to support two scholarships for female BSc (Hons) Physics students.
In addition, BHU has initiated a new scholarship for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) first-year students. The university intends to establish this scholarship for meritorious first-year MBBS students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. As part of the scholarship, the chosen candidates will receive Rs 25,000. This scholarship is intended to assist and support meritorious pupils from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. According to the university, this scholarship is intended to assist meritorious candidates who aspire to become physicians by relieving their financial burdens.
Former director of the Metallurgical Engineering department at IT-BHU (now IIT BHU), Dr. Ramesh Chandra Gupta, donated Rs 5 lakh to the university. The new Dr. Bhoj Raj Varma and Smt. Shanti Varma Memorial Scholarship is named after Gupta’s close relatives, according to a BHU notice.
