BSUSC Assistant Professor Recruitment notification of 4638 posts canceled by Patna high court

This decision was made by the court while hearing a petition filed by the Bihar State University Service Commission (BSUSC) for more than 50% reservation in the recruitment of assistant professors.

The Patna High Court cancelled the advertisement for the recruitment of 4638 Assistant Professors in Bihar’s 12 universities on Friday. This decision was made by the court while hearing a petition filed by the Bihar State University Service Commission (BSUSC) for more than 50% reservation in the recruitment of assistant professors. In the advertisement for 4638 positions, 1223 seats were reserved for the general category, while the remaining seats were reserved for the reserved category, with a maximum reservation of 50%. Previously, the court reserved its decision in this case in January.

In December, the High Court directed the Bihar State University Service Commission not to issue appointment letters until further orders were issued. The state government was then unable to provide a satisfactory response.

This order of the Patna High Court means that Bihar’s universities and colleges, which are suffering from a severe teacher shortage, are unlikely to receive relief for the time being. The recruitment process will be delayed here, as it has been previously. There are many university departments that operate without a teacher or with only one or two teachers.

However, while hearing a petition filed by Dr. Amod Prabodhi, a bench of Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma granted relief to the already appointed Assistant Professor on the condition that he be adjusted in the backlog vacancy as per the prescribed provisions after the roster was prepared. The recruitment advertisement will have to be reprinted. ‘The way reservation has been fixed for backlog vacancies is not correct at the moment,’ the court said.

BSUSC issued an advertisement for 4638 Assistant Professor positions in 52 subjects on September 23, 2020, just before the assembly elections.

The interview process for 29 of the 52 subjects for this recruitment has been completed by the Commission. The court order comes as interviews for subjects for which more candidates have applied are about to begin.

Previously, after 17 years, the Bihar Public Service Commission hired 3,364 people in 2014. Earlier in 1997, recruitment took place. The interview process for the 2014 BPSC recruitment began in 2015 and will last until 2020.
