CUET: Too many students got 100 percentile, English hons cut off will be high

Maximum 8236 candidates have secured 100 percentile in English. There are candidates of Political Science (2065), Commerce (1669), Biology (1324) and Economics (1188).

CUET: A large number of students have secured 100 percentile in the results of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to undergraduate courses declared on Friday. The results were to be declared at 10 pm on Thursday, but the National Testing Agency had informed late night about the delay in declaring the results citing a large database. NTA Senior Director (Examination) Sadhna Parashar said, “The universities involved in the examination will prepare the merit and decide on the counseling of the students on the basis of the CUET-UG mark-sheets.” The CUET-UG exam, which was conducted for the first time for admission to undergraduate courses, began in July and ended on August 30. 60 who registered took the exam.

Most in English

Maximum 8236 candidates have secured 100 percentile in English. There are candidates of Political Science (2065), Commerce (1669), Biology (1324) and Economics (1188). The numbers have been evaluated using the ‘equipercentile method’. On the basis of CUET-UG score board, admission will be given in 90 universities of the country.

Nominated score will be used for making merit

UGC President M. Jagadesh Kumar on Friday said that universities will use the normal score based on the marks obtained in each subject and not the percentile to prepare the merit list. The UGC chairman has said this in the context of the declaration of the result of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

Kumar informed that the scores have been normalized to provide equal opportunity to the students, as the students have appeared in the same subject on different days and in different shifts. Kumar said that the general score based on the marks obtained by the students in each subject and not the percentile will be used by the university for preparing the merit list. He said that the scores have been normalized so that equal opportunity is provided to the students. This is because the students have given the exam on different days and in different shifts.

Kumar said that the CUET scores have been normalized subject wise. The formula for normalization of scores using the ‘equipercentile method‘ has been worked out by a panel of professors from the Indian Statistical Institute, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and Delhi University, he said.
