Delhi Government Issues New Promotion Policy for Class 5 and Class 8 Students, know rules

The government has made it clear that no child will be expelled from school till the completion of elementary education.

The Delhi government has issued guidelines regarding how the students of class III to VIII will be evaluated and under what circumstances the children of class 5th and 8th can be prevented from promotion to the next class. By amending the Right to Education Act by the Indian Parliament, the states were allowed to determine how and under what circumstances the promotion of students in classes 5th and 8th to the next class, going beyond the ‘no detention’ policy, was stopped. can.

Keeping this law in mind, the Academic Authority of Delhi Government, SCERT has issued guidelines. It is issued for all government, local body, private schools.

According to this, the assessment of children in classes 5th and 8th will include half-yearly and annual examinations as well as co-curricular activities. These include project based activities, child participation in the classroom, theatre, dance, music, sports etc.

No child shall be expelled from the school till the completion of elementary education.

There will be regular examinations in classes V and VIII at the end of each academic year.

– If the child fails in the 5th or 8th examination, he will be given an opportunity of re-examination within a period of two months from the date of declaration of the result.

Classes III, IV, VI and VII will be evaluated on the same exam pattern as for classes V and VIII. Students of classes III, IV, VI and VII will not be detained in the same class.

Evaluation will be in the form of a mid-term examination (September or October) and an annual examination (February and March) for classes III to VIII.

Pen and paper-based examinations will be conducted for classes III to VIII. Students will be assessed on the basis of understanding and application of knowledge in real life instead of rote in the examination.

Marks for internal assessment will include attendance, project-based activities, portfolio etc.

What are the rules for classes 5th and 8th

For promotion to the next class, a minimum of 33 per cent marks in each subject must be obtained to pass at the end of the session.

In order to be promoted, it is necessary that the student should obtain at least 25 percent of the total marks in the mid-term examination and annual examination in addition to the marks obtained in the internal assessment.

To qualify for the re-examination, a student has to obtain at least 25% marks in the subject in which he/she has taken the re-examination.

If he/she does not obtain minimum 33 marks out of 100 in those subjects then he/she will be placed in the category of required repetition. In this case, the student will be placed back in the same class during the next session.

Education Minister Manish Sisodia said that our aim is not to stop any student from going to the next class, because the child never fails but the system fails. Its real purpose is to bring sensitivity towards education so that all take 5th and 8th classes seriously.
