DU VC Yogesh Singh extends warm welcome to fresh batch, ensures ragging-free environment

Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh proclaimed with pride that Delhi University has a strict policy against ragging, assuring a ragging-free environment. He extended a warm greeting to the incoming freshman class, signifying the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year at the university. After a three-year interruption induced by the Covid pandemic, the academic calendar has successfully resumed its regular schedule.

As stated by the university, on Wednesday, Singh extended his heartfelt best wishes to the prospective freshmen and encouraged them to explore the campuses of their respective colleges without fear.

He emphasized that the students’ entrance at their chosen universities is a joyous occasion. In addition, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that a total of 64,288 students have verified their admissions following the completion of the second round of the Common Seat Allocation System on August 15.

According to Singh, a total of 1,05,426 (1,05 lakh) students received seat offers during both the first and second phases.

In a promise to the freshmen, Singh assured them that the university would be free of hazing. Comparing their relationship to that of younger siblings, he urged the senior students to handle their junior counterparts with respect and care, thereby preventing undesirable occurrences.

Singh also highlighted the encouraging fact that the percentage of female pupils enrolled in all colleges affiliated with universities has surpassed fifty percent, a noteworthy and heartening development.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the admission rate for women in Delhi University colleges is 53%, surpassing the admission rate for men, which is 47%.

Wednesday, colleges conducted orientation sessions to greet the new students.

The incoming students at Miranda House were provided with a comprehensive comprehension of the curriculum, research opportunities, extracurricular activities, and variety of support services through a comprehensive orientation program.
Students will be introduced to yoga, self-defense techniques, and a hygiene initiative over the course of a week as part of this comprehensive orientation program.

Prof. (Dr.) Bijayalaxmi Nanda, Principal of Miranda House, remarked, “We firmly believe that establishing a solid foundation and fostering a sense of community are essential for embarking on a fruitful academic journey.”

She emphasized the importance of upholding values such as respect, fairness, and compassion, deeming them essential to being a contributing member of the thriving Miranda House community.
