Enrollment in higher educational institutions up by 90 lakh since 2014

Pradhan stated that the total number of pupils enrolled in higher education in 2014 was 3.42 crore, or 23%.

According to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the overall enrollment in higher education institutions comprises an estimated two crore female students.
As per his statement, the current enrollment of female pupils has increased by 31.6 percent compared to 2014.

Pradhan stated that the total number of pupils enrolled in higher education in 2014 was 3.42 crore, or 23%. In contrast, the enrollment for 2021-22 has increased to 4.32 crore, representing a 28 percent increase, according to the survey.

Higher education institutions have received an increase in financial resources from the Education Ministry. By the Ministry, the quantity of colleges and universities continues to expand. At present, the United States is home to 1,113 universities and 43,796 colleges.

The ministry report additionally offers insights into the trajectory of students striving for higher education, detailing an unprecedented 12.3 lakh applicants for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) this academic year.

An additional 3.7 lakh individuals registered for the JEE Mains this year compared to the previous year.

Additionally, the report reveals a substantial increase in the proportion of female applicants.

States including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan, which have excelled in the education sector and are therefore ranked among the top six states, have the maximum enrollment in higher education.

79% of those enrolled in colleges, universities, and technical schools are pursuing an undergraduate degree. Moreover, around 12 percent of the population holds a postgraduate degree.

A significant proportion of graduate students are enrolled in the arts track.

There is an equal distribution of students in scientific, commerce, and engineering and technology fields.

The report additionally emphasizes the worldwide influence of engineering establishments, including IITs, NITs, and AICTE, which administer the JEE assessments. In addition to Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore, Kuwait, Lagos, Colombo, Jakarta, Vienna, Moscow, and Bangkok, these examinations are conducted in cities outside of India.

IITs may also establish international campuses in Thailand, England, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Malaysia. The IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus, which will offer programs in energy transition and stability, is already under construction.
