Soumitra Satapathi of IIT Roorkee, a recipient of the Fulbright-Kalam Climatic Fellowship for Academic and Professional Excellence, intends to develop energy-efficient building development methods and evaluate their function in a carbon-free economy with a carbon footprint of zero.
Mary Rader from the University of Texas will participate in a four-month initiative at Jamia Milia Islamia’s Premchand Archives & Literary Centre in New Delhi to document ‘hidden archives’ in Delhi and Chennai as part of the subject Library Science. The University of Washington’s Manish Chalana will examine the representation of sites associated with underrepresented communities, including Dalits, non-elite Muslims, Sikhs, women, and non-binary groups, as part of a project on historic preservation at the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi. Under the Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowship, Trevor Price from the University of Chicago will conduct research on birds at the Wildlife Institute of India in Dehradun to monitor bird population.

Garcetti stated that educational exchange programmes alter lives because they add a new dimension to learning. “The education collaborations are based on four Ps: peace, planning for prosperity, and people, which enhances the learning. In recent years, more Indian students have studied in the United States. Over 21,000 Indian students travelled to the United States last year, making them the most numerous international students in American universities, said Garcetti, highlighting the shared cultural and democratic values of the United States and India.
Assistant Secretary Lee Satterfield of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, who is in India prior to the G20 Summit, applauded the 70-year-old Fullbright initiative that has helped strengthen educational ties between India and the United States.
