These young leaders are passionate about bringing about a gender-just future. Girl Up India is a girl-centered movement for leadership development that involves over 25,000 young people in India across 700+ Clubs across 26 States and Union territories. The Leadership Summit is Girl Up’s main event, which has been held annually since 2012.

Future 2030 served as the subject of the Girl Up India Leadership Summit 2023. Intergenerational talks that aim to educate, inspire, and unleash the leadership potential of young people were encouraged. “Our goal was to unite think leaders in the fight for gender equality through a creative programme run by girls. Aditi Arora, Country Director for Girl Up India, stated that “today is not a moment, but rather our steadfast commitment to the movement for gender equality.”

The day-long Summit gave girls and young people the knowledge, abilities, and resources they needed to become powerful leaders in their communities and beyond. The summit’s main themes included storytelling, entrepreneurship, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice, gender-based violence, disability rights, and STEM. It also covered a number of important issues relating to the growth of girls’ and young people’s leadership.

The Summit featured an impressive speaker schedule. Engaging panel discussions and fireside chats with notable speakers like Andrea Wojnar, Rajshri Deshpande, Leeza Mangaldas, Aanchal Malhotra, Supriya Paul, and youth role models like Ridhima Pandey and Artika Singh helped to brighten the day. Additionally, Mr. Shombi Sharp, the UN Resident Coordinator for India, and the outstanding actress and producer, Dia Mirza, joined us to recognise the outstanding

the bravery of young people who are trying to alter the course of our shared future. Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu gave a motivational speech to bring the Summit to a close.

Dia Mirza, an actor, producer, and the UN Secretary General’s advocate for the SDGs, remarked during her speech at the event, “It is past time that we work together to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of the development and ambitions of 253 million adolescents in India. The power of helping one another through difficulties is expanding, therefore let’s hold the door open so that more women can travel through with us. It’s critical that we picture a time when girls are in positions of leadership. Since females have boundless empathy and I really believe in the power of empathy, collectively we can make the world a more tranquil, caring, and lovely place.

UN Resident Coordinator in India Shombi Sharp greeted the crowd by saying, “Namaskar, mujhe Girl Up Summit mein aakar bohot khushi huyi. We can see that India is a pioneer when it comes to the participation of women in peacekeeping operations, fields involving artificial intelligence, and even the Chandrayaan-3 moon landing. The United Nations in India is extremely proud to continue working with the government, civil society, and business community to address the gender inequity that is the most pressing issue of our day and to harness the wonderful diversity of India’s largest youth population.

I feel privileged to be in a room full of individuals who are enthusiastic and positive about something. Menstruation is still shunned, shamed, and stigmatised in many parts of the world. In order to assist 5 million girls in India by 2025, we announced the Global Menstrual Equity Accelerator on the Global Citizen Stage. Let’s keep in mind that the path to gender parity requires cooperation, solidarity, and standing together as change agents. In her motivational closing message, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu declared, “You and I believe in change.

Girl Up is a girl-centered initiative for leadership development that was established by the UN Foundation. In areas where they are underrepresented or unheard of, we think it is important to concentrate on equity for girls and women. 200,000 girls in 152 countries are served by the global network of regional affiliates that Girl Up runs. It operates through 700+ youth clubs in 26 Indian states, including more than 25,000 future leaders.
