Handloom Directorate and NIFT Lead the Way: At the JLN Udyog Bhawan in Jammu, Rohit Kansal, the Union Additional Secretary for the Ministry of Textiles and the Director General of NIFT, and Smita Sethi, the Secretary for Industry and Commerce, today showcased packaging prototypes and a craft document for handicrafts and loom items from the Jammu area.
Under the direction of Vikramjeet Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce, the event was put together.
Speaking at the event, Rohit Kansal praised the efforts of the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu, and NIFT Srinagar for creating packaging prototypes that were well designed and in line with consumer demand.
He continued, “It will undoubtedly improve the sales of the goods relative to the incomes of the craftsmen and weavers of the Jammu region.
Through a thorough presentation, Dr. Javid Ahmed Wani, Director of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Srinagar, informed the weavers and craftsmen from the Kathua, Samba, and Jammu districts about the packaging project.
The craft document showcasing the crafts of the Jammu division was unveiled by the dignitaries, which was another significant component of the occasion.
The purpose of the event was to develop an appealing package design strategy for the branding of handicraft and weaving products from the Jammu division, including Basohli Painting, Basohli Pashmina, Phulkari Products, Calico Printing, and Lathe Cum Lacquer.
The project aims to develop a roadmap to develop distinctive and sustainable packaging to add value to Jammu cottage industry artefacts, to present distinctive packaging to create a benchmark having international standards, and to identify the distinctive selling point of selected Jammu Handicrafts and Handloom products.
Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director of Handicrafts and Handloom in Jammu, Khalid Jahangir, MD of JKTPO, and other officials from the Industries and Commerce department were also in attendance.
