Haryana Notifies Compassionate Appointment Policy for Family Members of Battle Casualties

The policy covers instances in which members of the Armed Forces or Central Armed Police Force have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Haryana Notifies Compassionate Appointment Policy for Family Members of Battle Casualties: On Monday, a day before Independence Day, the Haryana Government issued the “Compassionate Appointment (for the family member of Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Force Battle Casualty) Policy, 2023.” Under this new policy, dependents of martyrs who lost their lives in numerous “Battle Casualties” incidents will be eligible.

Haryana Notifies Compassionate Appointment Policy for Family Members of Battle Casualties

The policy covers instances in which members of the Armed Forces or Central Armed Police Force have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, whether in war, IED blasts, terrorist or militant attacks, border skirmishes, United Nations peacekeeping missions, or even due to accidents, cardiac arrests, air crashes, and natural disasters that demanded extraordinary bravery and devotion.

This is a departure from previous policies, such as those dated May 30, 2014, and September 28, 2018, which provided employment exclusively to the dependents of martyrs who were killed in border skirmishes, terrorist attacks, or riots and were formally declared martyrs by the Ministry of Defence or Ministry of Home Affairs.

The new policy broadens the scope of compassionate appointments, recognising the variety of circumstances under which these champions made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation, according to a notification from the Chief Secretary.

The Chief Secretary, Sanjeev Kaushal, stated that this policy, which goes into effect today, will allow one of the eligible relatives of a battle casualty to be appointed to a Group B, C, or D position in the Haryana Government.

Kaushal stated that the purpose of this policy is to offer support to bereaved families through compassionate appointments for eligible family members who have lost a loved one in conflict while serving in the Armed Forces or Central Armed Police Forces. This assistance is extended to those who tragically lost their lives in the course of duty while residing in Haryana. Moreover, this provision is in addition to other benefits to which the family is entitled from the respective government department in India.
