Himachal CM announces to set up ‘Rajya Chayan Aayog’ in place of Staff Selection Commission

The notification stated that the HPSSC, Hamirpur's acts of omissions and commissions not only undermined its credibility, but also harmed the greater public interest.

Rajya Chayan Aayog: Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, announced on Monday that the ‘Rajya Chayan Aayog’ will be established in Hamirpur within the next two months to ensure the impartiality of the selection criteria for candidates. He stated that his government is committed to introducing transparency to the selection process and ensuring that it is based on merit. Sukhu made this announcement while introducing the Mukhya Mantri Sporting Abilities, Rebuilding Aspirations and Livelihood Scheme (SABAL) from his constituency in the Hamirpur district, Nadaun.

During the tenure of the previous BJP government, the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission in Hamirpur, according to Sukhu, had become the centre of question paper peddling corruption. “Our government swiftly apprehended and imprisoned the perpetrators,” he stated.

He stated that this new commission will recruit 6,000 teachers shortly. In addition, 3000 Van Mitra will be recruited by the Forest Department and 1200 by the police to combat drug trafficking as part of a special task force. This year, he stated, the state government will conduct more than 10,000 recruitments.

Rajya Chayan Aayog in place of Staff Selection Commission

The Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission (HPSSC), Hamirpur, which was established on October 6, 1998, was dissolved on February 21, this year. In a notification issued on February 21, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena stated that the HPSSC was established with the intent that the initial recruitment to various Class-III services or posts under the Government of Himachal Pradesh, excluding the posts excluded from its jurisdiction, shall be based on the advice of the Commission.

The notification stated that the HPSSC, Hamirpur’s acts of omissions and commissions not only undermined its credibility, but also harmed the greater public interest. In addition, the Commission did not carry out its duties and responsibilities in an objective, transparent, and confidential manner, to the detriment of job applicants.
