IIT Bhubaneswar plans to setup centre of excellence: IIT Bhubaneswar plans to establish a centre of excellence (CoE) for laboratory-grown gemstones. After evaluating the physical infrastructure, research projects, academic programmes, and faculty development measures of national higher education institutions on Friday, Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted the following.

“It is heartening to learn that IIT Bhubaneswar plans to expand its experimental facilities and establish two innovative centres, one for materials characterization, processing, and manufacturing, and the other for a Centre of Excellence for laboratory-grown diamonds,” said Pradhan.

He stated that both of these facilities will expand the research and development (R&D) and innovation profile of IIT Bhubaneswar, strengthen innovation and research in material sciences, strengthen industry-academia links, aid in the development of critical technologies, encourage entrepreneurship, increase employment, and make India independent in frontier areas.

According to official sources, the institute will work with an IIT alumnus to cultivate diamonds in the laboratory. After the proposal is approved, the IIT Bhubaneswar will establish the centre, according to an official.

At IIT Bhubaneswar, he inaugurated the Virtual and Augmented Reality Centre of Excellence. This CoE will expedite digital transformation across disciplines, stimulate application-driven research, and stimulate entrepreneurship.

Pradhan stated that augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) have the potential to revolutionise education, healthcare, and architecture, among other fields. He urged IIT Bhubaneswar to adapt to the evolving aspirations of the new India and to localise innovations and solutions.

In accordance with the tenets of the national education policy (NEP), he interacted with newly-hired faculty members and encouraged them to instill social responsibilities in young minds and also prepare them to become global citizens.

He urged the IIT Bhubaneswar staff to undertake a major tree-planting initiative by July of this year in order to make the campus sustainable and green.

He examined the development of projects, research, and other aspects at IIT Bhubaneswar, IIM Sambalpur, NIT Rourkela, Central University of Odisha, Koraput, and IISER Berhampur.
