Selection method
According to the announcement, there are two phases to the selection process: first, the shortlisting of candidates, followed by the SSB Interview. The merit list will be compiled based on the candidates’ SSB interview scores, categorized by their engineering discipline or stream. If multiple candidates have identical SSB scores, the elder candidate will be given preference based on age. If candidates have identical SSB scores and ages, the candidate with the highest percentage of marks on their qualifying exam will be ranked higher on the merit list. Higher educational attainment and past performance will not influence the selection procedure. Candidates on the merit list who satisfy the stream-specific vacancies and are medically fit will receive joining letters for pre-commissioning training at IMA Dehradun, assuming they meet all of the organization’s eligibility requirements.
After selection
Candidates selected for training will attend the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. Their training allocation will be determined by their position in the final order of merit, categorised by engineering stream, assuming they satisfy all organisational eligibility requirements.
The training period lasts one year and is completely subsidized by the government. However, if a Gentleman Cadet is withdrawn from the Training Academy for reasons other than medical grounds or circumstances beyond their control, they will be responsible for reimbursing the training costs, which currently stand at 16,260 per week as of 2023 and will be adjusted according to future notifications.
The costs incurred by the government will be recouped from candidates who withdraw for personal reasons.
