International CME on Hematology: When giving the keynote address at the opening session of the two-day International CME on Haematology: Basic Concept and Changing Paradigms organised by the Depa of Pathology, Prof. Bakul Dalal, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (President of Association of Indian Pathologists in North America-(AIPNA), stated that hematopathology plays a crucial role in comprehending, diagnosing, and treating a wide spectrum of diseases affecting multiple organ systems of our body.

According to Prof. Dalal, obstinate research, inventiveness, and teamwork are the driving forces behind the ongoing evolution of haematology.

Additionally, Prof. Dalal pledged to give the Department of Pathology equipment worth more than one crore rupees, which will aid in the detection of malignancies and blood illnesses.

What is Hematology?

Haematology encompasses a broad spectrum of diseases and conditions that relate to both malignant and non-malignant diseases, according to the chief guest, Mr. Mohd. Imran, IPS, Registrar, AMU. He added that students who are interested in pursuing haematology have a range of career pathways to select from, adding that the development of better diagnostic procedures has increased our understanding of the system and influences the discipline today. According to him, this CME would provide participants with a forum to share ideas, find fresh prospects, and increase their expertise.

Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, stated that working in haematology is incredibly fulfilling since it offers the chance to assist patients with life-threatening illnesses through both direct patient care and research that transforms clinical practise. Haematologists now have more tools at their disposal to treat patients or help them live better lives, according to Prof. Maheshwari. She went on to say that “a number of hematologic disorders have evolved from terminal diagnoses to curable diseases and manageable life-long conditions.”

He added that at the conference, renowned specialists in their domains from various centres of excellence in India and overseas would provide cutting-edge didactic sessions.

Haematology is a remarkably interesting subject where recent discoveries show potential to significantly improve the survival of patients with life-threatening hematologic disorders, according to Prof. Haris Manzoor Khan, Principal and CMS. Nearly all areas of medicine have hematologic issues as a side effect of disease, and all medical specialties rely heavily on haematology consultation skills to help patients.

According to the organising chairman, Prof. Mahboob Hasan, this CME was put together in collaboration with notable figures in haematology. Through intimate interaction with renowned experts in the field, postgraduate students can take advantage of this opportunity to broaden their knowledge and explore some of the most recent trends.

The lectures and panel discussions would be especially helpful to haematologists, physicians, including paediatricians, and allied health professionals who are interested in learning about contemporary diagnostic methods in this sector, according to Prof. Nishat Afroz, organising secretary of the CME.

JN Medical College Resident was invited to visit Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, by Guest of Honour Prof. Sumeet Gujral. He promised to offer the PG students at this university all the assistance he could.
