International Literacy Day observed at Aligarh Muslim University

Prof. Naima Gulrez, principal of Women's College, stated that women's education is essential for the development of the nation and the family. She stated that if the mother is educated, subsequent generations will be educated as well.

“There has been a considerable increase in the literacy rate in the country and today about 74 percent people are educated. However, better efforts are needed to be made to spread literacy in the parts of the country which are still lagging behind due to various reasons”, said the AMU Registrar, Mohammad Imran (IPS) while addressing a programme organized by the Centre for Adult and Continuing Education and Extension to mark the International Literacy Day.

He stated that since the advent of digitization in the country, the rate of financial literacy has increased and even rural residents conduct transactions digitally. He stated that the transaction process has also become much simpler, and that digital literacy is responsible for the fact that business is now conducted through various digital media.

“Education leads to empowerment, and the adult education center is performing a noble service by educating the residents of Aligarh and the surrounding villages,” he continued.
