Jamia Millia Islamia marks 100 years: On July 23, 2023, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will celebrate its Centenary Year Convocation at Vigyan Bhawan. The commencement ceremony will recognise the graduates of Academic Years 2019 and 2020. The Vice President of India, Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar, will be the Chief Guest, while the Union Education Minister, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, will preside over the convocation.
Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) personally met with Mr. Pradhan in order to extend the invitation and solicit his participation as the Convocation’s Chairperson. The Minister graciously accepted the invitation, demonstrating his intense interest in the development of the university.
During the meeting, Prof. Akhtar thanked the Honourable Minister for granting her an audience and highlighted JMI’s recent accomplishments and outstanding achievements. Evidently, the Honourable Minister was already familiar with the university’s accomplishments, demonstrating his keen interest in JMI. In addition, Prof. Akhtar presented her proposal to establish a medical college at JMI, highlighting the university’s commitment to expanding its academic offerings.
The Centenary Year Convocation is significant because it represents a turning point in JMI’s extensive history. The presence of distinguished dignitaries, such as the Vice President and the Minister of Education of the Union, enhances the significance of the event and demonstrates the national recognition and support that JMI receives.
