JMI Organizes Upskilling Workshop on Structured Query Language (SQL)

The Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized an Upskilling workshop on “Structured Query Language (SQL) “on September 23, 2023 at the Computer Lab of the Department.

The workshop was led by Mr. Mohd Zaid, Data Analyst Consultant at Acxiom Consulting, Pvt. Ltd, Noida and esteemed alumni of the Department.

The primary objective of the workshop was to empower students of the MSc Banking and Financial Analytics (MSc BFA) program with essential SQL skills for data analysis in the Banking and Financial Sector. MSc BFA is a postgraduate, professional, innovative Degree programme run by the Department since 2019 with high prospects of employability.

The workshop started with opening remarks by Prof. Asheref Iliyan, Head of the Department. He warmly welcomed the key resource person, faculty members (Dr. Zakaria, Dr. Kashif, Dr. Nadeem, and Aqib) and MSc BFA students. Prof.Illiyan highlighted the importance of upskilling students to be corporate-ready. Mr. Zaid commenced the workshop with an in-depth introduction to SQL, covering database concepts, querying, and data wrangling. Further, he shared his insightful industry experience, on the application of SQL in banking and financial analytics.

The practical examples with hands-on training resonated well with the audience and fostered active participation and skill development among the students.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. The Department of Economics looks forward to organizing more such workshops to empower students and strengthen their skills for a successful career in the dynamic world of finance and data analysis.
