JNU Students Union condemns defacement of campus walls, seeks investigation

JNUSU issued a statement condemning any such acts that intentionally target any community in order to incite discord or disrupt the campus's peaceful environment.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union condemned the defacement of walls and faculty rooms in the School of International Studies (SIS) on Friday and urged the administration to take strict action against the miscreants. Some SIS walls were defaced with “anti-brahmin” slogans.

JNUSU issued a statement condemning any such acts that intentionally target any community in order to incite discord or disrupt the campus’s peaceful environment. However, it added that political art and wall postering are a “integral part of the university’s political culture.”

“We have never seen the same thing used for hateful purposes under the guise of anonymity. The JNU Administration must take note of such slogans and take the necessary strict action in accordance with the university’s statutes “It stated. According to the Students Union, only a “certain group within the campus” has “repeatedly attempted” to vitiate the campus environment in order to maintain an atmosphere of insecurity on campus.

According to the student union, the “progressive” JNU student movement has never defined social justice as contingent on the “outright expulsion of any particular group from society,” and the “right-wing forces have tried historically to caricature claims to social justice in a deplorable manner, with the exclusionary CAA-NRC-NPR being the latest of their attempts at so-called justice.” “The JNUSU reiterates its strong condemnation of current and past acts of vandalism and urges the JNU Administration to conduct a time-bound free and fair investigation to ensure peace and normalcy on campus,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor Santishree D. Pandit has taken serious note of the defacement of walls and faculty rooms in the School of International Studies by unknown elements. “On campus, the administration condemns these exclusive tendencies. Such incidents will not be tolerated because JNU belongs to everyone “According to a notice from the Registrar of JNU.

The Dean of the School of International Studies and the Grievances Committee have been asked to investigate and report back to the VC as soon as possible. “JNU represents inclusion and equality. The VC reiterates that there is no tolerance for violence on campus “The notice stated
