Kanchrapara Railway Workshop Attains “GREENCO GOLD” and “IGBC PLATINUM”: Eastern Railway’s Kanchrapara Railway Workshop was awarded the prestigious “GREENCO GOLD” rating and “IGBC PLATINUM Rating” for its Administration building for its outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability. This award recognises the workshop’s commitment to minimising its environmental impact and promoting energy efficiency and renewable resources.

Kanchrapara Railway Workshop Attains “GREENCO GOLD” and “IGBC PLATINUM” Ratings for Environmental Excellence

The “GREENCO GOLD” rating, instituted by the Confederation of Indian Industry, recognises businesses that have made substantial advances in enhancing their environmental performance and conserving natural and financial resources. Kanchrapara Railway Workshop has excelled in its environmental efforts under the leadership of Amar Prakash Dwivedi, General Manager of Eastern Railway, and the combined efforts of its team.

To attain this rating, the workshop implemented a number of measures, with a strong emphasis on solar energy collection. Utilising the available rooftop space, the workshop has installed 2300 kWp solar power plants. Between January and June of 2023, these installations generated an astounding 320,454 kWh of solar energy, contributing to approximately 39% of the workshop’s daytime renewable energy requirements. In addition, the workshop is actively working towards the installation of a 1,550 kWp Rooftop Solar plant, which will further strengthen its commitment to the generation of renewable energy.

The Kanchrapara Workshop’s “GREENCO GOLD” rating reflects its commitment to reducing carbon emissions in accordance with the national objective of achieving Net Zero by 2030. These initiatives played a crucial role in achieving this rating.

In addition, the workshop has made commendable efforts to preserve an eco-friendly landscape. Its verdant vegetation and deep gorges help to raise the water table in the workshop and surrounding area. In addition, the workshop adheres to stringent waste disposal regulations to ensure that no waste is sent to landfills, as emphasised by Kausik Mitra, ER’s chief public relations officer.

To promote sustainability beyond its premises, the workshop has planted trees and conducted environmental conservation awareness and training programmes in nearby communities and campuses.

Kanchrapara Railway Workshop’s Administrative building’s “GREENCO GOLD” and “IGBC PLATINUM” ratings highlight its exemplary efforts in adopting green practises, highlighting the significance of environmental stewardship for industries seeking growth competitiveness and global excellence.
