Maharashtra schools reopen with integrated textbooks to reduce school bag weight

Schools in Vidarbha reopen on 30 June in accordance with the summer season.

Maharashtra schools reopen with integrated textbooks: Maharashtra state board schools reopened on Thursday for the new academic year 2023-24, with the government introducing the one bag per semester initiative for students in classes 1 through 8 beginning this academic year. Schools in Vidarbha reopen on 30 June in accordance with the summer season.

Maharashtra schools reopen with integrated textbooks

This year, textbooks have been divided into four sections. There is one textbook for each subject per semester. After each chapter, blank pages have been added to the textbook so that students do not need to bring notebooks to class. This year, government schools have adopted integrated textbooks and notebooks to reduce the weight of school backpacks. If successful, it will be implemented in private SSC institutions as well.

Deepak Kesarkar, minister of school education, has placed the onus on parents to ensure that their children transport only one textbook in their school bags. Teachers have also been provided with an online guidance session on how to make the most of the blank sheets supplied in the textbooks.

Schools in Mumbai welcomed students with flowers, chants, and music on Thursday. At the Hansraj Morarji school in Andheri, classrooms and greeting boards were decorated.

Government institutions have been instructed to provide free textbooks and uniforms on the first day of school. The implementation of the ‘One State One Uniform’ policy has been delayed until the following school year. Previously, the government desired that all state-run institutions require uniforms for students. In spite of the fact that the majority of schools had already placed orders for their respective uniforms, the government decided to institute a uniform policy for the upcoming school year. While schools have received Rs 300 per student for a uniform, most educational institutions are still anticipating the second payment.
