MBBS: NEET low ranks students were contacted, cheated more than 3 crores

The Navi Mumbai Police claimed to have busted a racket that duped students out of Rs 3.30 crore in the name of admission to medical colleges, and that five people were arrested as a result of the investigation. On Wednesday, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe told reporters that the accused had duped students from Mumbai, Gujarat, and other places in Thane district, in addition to Navi Mumbai. He claimed that gang members who had been active for the last five to seven years used to contact students with low pre-medical, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scores and offer them admission to medical colleges in exchange for a large sum of money.

Low NEET scores were obtained, self-financing was used to apply for an MBBS seat, and 13 lakhs were lost.

According to Bharambe, the police received the first complaint after the accused allegedly duped a girl student from Chhattisgarh and stole Rs 33.5 lakh from her under the guise of getting her into a medical college in Navi Mumbai’s Nerul area. The girl student was given a fake admit card, so the Nerul police department opened an investigation.

The police arrested five people after receiving various intelligence and technical information about the case. Saurabh Krishna Upadhyay (39), Iftekar Ahmed Mushtaq Ahmed alias Abhay Singh alias Gautam (31) (both from Noida), and Luv Awadhkishore Gupta (31). (35). He stated that both Aqib Naushad Ahmed (28) and Abhijat Radheshyam Singh (41) of Mumbai are Ghaziabad residents.

With the arrest of five suspects, the police claimed to have discovered cases of cheating in the Maharashtra districts of Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, and Bhandara.

The accused had previously been charged in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Navi Mumbai, Gujarat, Palghar, and Mumbai, according to police.

Bharambe has urged students preparing for medical school not to fall victim to such con artists and to contact the Navi Mumbai Police if they have been duped.
