Member of the National Commission for Minorities visits AMU

Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, vice chancellor of AMU, emphasised the institution's accomplishments and critical contribution to the growth of the country.

National Commission for Minorities: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was honoured to have Ms. Syed Shahezadi, a prominent Member of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, in attendance today. The day began with an interactive session when Ms. Shahezadi spoke with staff members, professors, and students from AMU. It was held in the Conference Hall of the Registrar’s Office.

In her speech, Ms. Shahezadi discussed the crucial role played by the NCM, highlighting the fact that it was founded under the National Commission for Minorities Act of 1992. She emphasised that, in accordance with the Indian Constitution and pertinent laws, the fundamental goal of NCM is to defend and protect the interests of minority populations.

Ms Shahezadi praised AMU for its enormous contributions to field education globally and expressed her love for the university’s rich history and the founder, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.

During her visit, she paid particular attention to women’s empowerment via education and praised the government’s dedication to the welfare of minorities.

Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, vice chancellor of AMU, emphasised the institution’s accomplishments and critical contribution to the growth of the country. He also discussed the infrastructure requirements necessary for AMU’s continued expansion.

In his opening remarks, Registrar Mr. Mohammad Imran (IPS) gave an incisive overview of the rich history and accomplishments of AMU.

AMU officials, deans, principals, elected EC members, and students actively participated in the session, creating fruitful communication between AMU and the NCM.

During her visit, Ms. Shahezadi also stopped by the University Women’s Polytechnic’s “Creative Mela,” where she praised the students for their great craftsmanship.

During Ms. Shahezadi’s visit, both parties expressed appreciation for AMU’s contributions to minority community improvement, education, and empowerment and pledged to continue working together to further these admirable goals.
