Mewat Model Schools staff turned out to be poor sons of Education department

CM Manohar Lal Khattar had decided to integrate the schools with the education department to fulfil the financial obligation

Mewat Model Schools staff turned out to be poor sons: The merging of Mewat Model Schools with the Education department has made matters worse for the teaching and support personnel while casting doubt on the future of the around 7500 pupils attending the district’s educationally underperforming schools.

Notably, CM Manohar Lal Khattar had decided to integrate the schools with the education department to fulfil the financial obligations of operating the institutions in 2020 while presiding over the Mewat Development Agency meeting.

As a result, the education department consolidated the schools after a year, which then began the nightmare for the 350-person force of teaching and non-teaching employees stationed there.

Teachers claim that in addition to receiving delayed pay, the department has begun changing their job to ad hoc employment while claiming technical justifications. The HTET examinations must be passed by the teachers hired after 2012 in order for them to be eligible.

“We haven’t received pay for the last four months. And it has been happening for the past 1.5 years. The administration has now introduced this new course of action. Would we now teach or study for our exams? Particularly now that we have worked for two decades under the terms and circumstances of the Mewat cadre,” remarked Satish, a member of the Association of Teaching Staff.

We are already knocking on every door, but if nothing changes, we will have to walk out onto the streets, he continued.

Notably, the Model School concept was first introduced in the late 1990s when they were established in partnership with the administration of a well-known New Delhi school chain. These CBSE-affiliated schools have opened in each of the Mewat district’s blocks.

The administration of the private school withdrew over time, and Mewat Development Agency took over management of the schools. In 2021, the Education department received control of the schools, teaching personnel, and non-teaching employees.

Kanwar Pal Gujjar, the minister of education, remained unavailable. When contacted, representatives from the Education Department verified the change in employment by stating that they “had to follow their rule book. This is now the prerequisite for passing the teachers’ eligibility test,” the speaker stated.
