National Exit Test in 2024, to be conducted by AIIMS-Delhi: NExT 2024

According to the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, the NExT examination will serve as a common qualifying final year MBBS examination

National Exit Test in 2024: The National Exit Test (NExT) will likely be administered by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 2024, according to official sources who spoke on Thursday.

According to the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, the NExT examination will serve as a common qualifying final year MBBS examination, a licentiate examination to practise modern medicine and for merit-based admission to PG courses, and a screening examination for foreign medical graduates who wish to practise in India.

National Exit Test in 2024

Invoking the provisions of the NMC Act, the government extended the deadline for administering the NExT exam for MBBS students in their final year until September 2024.

Within three years of the NMC Act’s enactment, the Commission must administer a common final year UG medical examination, NExT, as specified by regulations. The Act became effective in September of 2020. The deadline was extended last year, according to officials.

AIIMS, New Delhi is being considered as a prospective replacement for the National Board of Examinations in the Medical Sciences (NBEMS) as the exam administrator for the NExT.

Numerous preparations are required to administer the NExT exam, including determining the exam’s modalities, syllabus, format (analytical or multiple-choice questions), number of tests, and regulations. Officials underscore the need for adequate preparation time for students and the significance of conducting practise exams prior to the actual exam.

Prior to administering the actual examination, it would be necessary to conduct practise exams.

The significance of the NExT exam resides in its global applicability, regardless of whether medical training took place in India or elsewhere. This standardised examination will resolve the difficulties foreign medical graduates (FMGs) face with regard to mutual recognition.

Currently, final year MBBS examinations are administered by individual colleges, while the NEET-PG and FMGE are administered by NBE.
