National Pharmacovigilance Week observed at JNMCH (AMU)

National Pharmacovigilance Week: The Adverse Drug Reporting (ADR) Monitoring Centre (AMC), J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University’s week-long celebration of National Pharmacovigilance Week came to an end with the felicitation of participants and the awarding of prizes to the winners of the competitive awareness-based events.

Prof Mohammad Shameem (Department of TB and Respiratory Diseases), Prof Mohammad Akram (Department of Radiotherapy) and Dr Mohammad Adil (Department of Dermatology) were felicitated for their continuous support to AMC, while Dr Mubashir (SR, Department of Radiotherapy), Dr Sadiq (JR, Department of TBRD) and Dr Pratik (JR, Department of Pharmacology) were awarded for reporting maximum ADRs to the centre.

Under the outreach initiative, a number of activities were planned, including a sensitization and awareness workshop for faculty members, resident physicians, paramedical staff, and patients and consumers.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, emphasised the need to urge healthcare workers to report adverse drug reactions (ADR) in order to better understand the risk associated with medication use and to protect the public’s health.

The prompt identification and recording of adverse medication reactions is essential, according to Prof. Haris M. Khan, Principal and CMS, JNMCH, so that the risks can be quickly detected and mitigated.

The Principal of ZADC, Prof. R. K. Tiwari, emphasised the cases of ADRs that have been documented in dentistry sciences. He exhorted the Dental College professors to support the AMC.

The significance of paramedical staff support in ADR reporting was emphasised by Prof. Ibne Ahmad, Principal, Paramedical College.

The tremendous increase in ADR reporting as well as other academic and outreach initiatives carried out at the AMC were emphasised by Prof. Farida Ahmad (Coordinator, AMC). Additionally, she emphasised the significance of ADR reporting in particular populations, such as visually impaired people, and claimed that the awareness initiative at the Ahmadi School for Visually Impaired was a teaching moment for her.

AMC-PvPI Pharmacovigilance Associate Gufran Ali actively participated in organising the programme.

The proceedings were presided over by Dr. Mariyam Afaque, and Zainab Javed offered the vote of gratitude.
